How to setup your Aeroo Pro Fishing Drone Rig

Many of our Aeroo Pro customers ask us the best way to set up their traces and rigs on their new Aeroo Pro Fishing Drone. Read on to find out more!

In Australia, often only a maximum of two hooks is allowed.

The other big difference between rigs that many people use here vs. Australia and other countries is that overseas people suggest very long drop lines, or the lines between the drone and the rest of the rig, and sinkers. The idea here is to keep your drone and its swinging blades a long way from your rig, but some of the suggested distances are very long. Take the diagram below:

The basic drone fishing rig that Aeroo suggests

Aeroo suggest this kind of rig for your Aeroo Pro Drone

As you can see from this diagram, there is a 5-metre distance between the sinker and the drone, and a three-way swivel that holds the three sections of the rig together.

Aeroo also provides a wire 2m drop cable in the box of all new drones (this cable is indicated above as the 2m length that goes from the drone to the three-way swivel)

The other thing to note about the above rig is that the traces actually hang downwards and directly underneath the drone. This sort of setup works best if you have a small number of hooks and traces (like the two as shown).

How do I connect my Aeroo Pro drone to the rest of the traces and rig?

This is an important question, and is probably the biggest one that we are often asked and one that confuses many new Aeroo Pro Drone owners, particularly because in the new Aeroo Pro Box there are a number of different items related to this connection:

  • A Number of White Plastic Clips (or Pegs)
  • A Number of Sliver Clips of two sizes (similar size to paper clips)
  • A Split ring
  • A Wire Cable

In the image above, you can start to see how all of these items go together. On the left-hand side is where the drone is connected (using the Split Ring included in the box), and on the right, at the end of the wire cable, it connects to the rest of your rig. The item that is marked as “Safety Clip” is the white plastic peg, and the small loop on the left-hand side of this is where the split ring that comes in the box attaches, and then goes under the drone.

As you can see, on the right side of the “Safety Clip” is where the metal clip (called the attachment clip in the image) is attached to. This is an important part of the entire setup as this is the point that the drone will release from the rest of the rig in an emergency, like a bird strike or if your fishing reel on the beach becomes jammed. This is the connection that ensures your beloved Aeroo Pro doesn’t take a quick dip in the ocean!

In most situations, the connection between the plastic safety clip and the metal clip does not break; the drone releases the whole thing, which stays connected to the rest of your rig, so you drag it in later when you retrieve your line.

It’s important to note that the “Release Cable” on the right goes directly to the rig, which can be connected using another metal clip or some sort of metal tackle clip (like a snap – swivel)

Why are there two sizes of metal clips inside the box?

Now in terms of the metal clips that are included in the box, there are two sizes, one large (made with thicker wire) and one small (made with smaller wire). Why is there two sizes needed? (you may ask). The larger size is designed for when you are carrying payload weights above 500 grams, and the smaller clip is designed for payload weights that are below 500 grams. In practice this means that if you are carrying bigger weights you don’t want your rig to prematurely release from your drone, so thicker wire is required. For many people with 2 or 3 baits and small sinkers the smaller metal clips are going to work just fine.
